Visit with our family doctor

We're just back from Picton, and seeing our family doctor.  He is now referring me to the Respiratory Clinic in Kingston for more testing and where I'll also learn some breathing exercises.  He's also referring me to the Belleville hospital for a myocardial perfusion scan, which is a nuclear medicine procedure that illustrates the function of the heart muscle.
Unfortunately, I still wasn't able to convince him to start Jim on the medications for alzheimers.  He still wants to wait six months and do the testing again.  This makes me so totally frustrated.  Jim's short term memory is so bad.  Everything I read says how important it is to get on the meds early.  Our doctor says you can't believe everything you read!

Just to let you know you're not alone -- A Dr. I was seeing was concerned that I mihgt have either Alzheimer's or Frontotemoral Dementia. He order a ton of testinr, but when the testing came back pointing to FTD he didn't agree with the testing. It wasn't until I had more testing done (actually the same tests again) a few months later and switched to another Dr. in the same practice that the results of the testing were obvious to and everyone. My age and several other complicating conditions made the first Dr. hesitate, but the second Dr. saw the results for what they were. It was frustrating, but at least we're all on the same page now. And Marcus (above comment) is right, Dr.s have egos that can be easily bruised. They want to find out that what's wrong can be cured, but we know that dementias aren't that way. Its as if the diagnosis means that the doctor has failed in some way and nobody likes to fail. So they hope for something different. "Wait a few months and maybe things will be better." And so we are left in with frustration. I hold you and Jim in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Oh, is your doctor the right doctor for Jim? I mean, you should have a specialist to handle his case. Those generic doctors may put you in the wrong path. I hope Jim and you are all good now.
